Rose Thelen, International Trainer

​Rose Thelen co-founded the Gender Violence Institute (GVI) in Clearwater, MN in 1993 where she coordinates projects and provides training and technical assistance on methods to enhance individual agency and coordinated community responses (CCR) to end domestic violence.
 
Since 2002, she has also been a Praxis CCR and Advocacy Technical Assistance Provider to Rural OVW grantees on advocacy and CCR methodologies and is on the faculty of the Praxis Advocacy Learning Center.  Rose has participated in numerous Safety and Accountability Audits, most recently in one that resulted in the St. Paul Blueprint.
 
Since 1979, Rose has been: a shelter advocate; founder and coordinator of the St. Cloud Intervention Project (a CCR); a batterer’s group facilitator; a Legislative Education Coordinator at the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW); and an organizational development and programming consultant.
 
Rose has also worked in Eastern Europe through the Advocates for Human Rights and recently was a consultant to U.S. State Department Bureau of International Information Program to provide training and technical assistance in Moldova and Kuwait.
 
From 2008-2012, Rose served her district as a Wright County Commissioner. In that capacity she also served on the board of Wright County Health and Human Services and the Wright County Public Health Task Force. In 2016 Rose was elected to serve a 3-year term as a Clearwater Township Supervisor.
