Senior Trainer and DVFREE Workplace Coordinator
Graham Barnes is Shine’s Senior Trainer and DVFREE Workplace Coordinator in Auckland, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Initially trained as a teacher, Graham has a BSW, a Diploma in Teaching (Dip.Tchng), and has worked to stop domestic violence since 1986.
In Aotearoa/NZ, he was involved in setting up the first men’s stopping violence programmes, and worked on a national inter-agency pilot in Hamilton, based on the world-leading Duluth model. Graham worked with Ellen Pence in Duluth as she developed the Safety and Accountability Audit model at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP) in 1995-96. Then in Auckland with Shine, he developed their workplace domestic violence project, and started their men’s stopping violence programme.
In 2003 he returned to Duluth’s National Training Project creating resources and leading training presentations and workshops. Then, he provided national and international training and technical assistance work for the Battered Women’s Justice Project in Minneapolis until April 2016. He returned to Shine in Auckland for an opportunity to further develop the DVFREE Workplace Programme. http://www.dvfree.org.nz
