Graham Barnes is the Legal Reform and Resource Specialist for Global Rights for Women in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. Previously, Graham was Shine’s Senior Trainer and DVFREE Workplace Coordinator in Auckland Aotearoa/New Zealand. Initially trained as a teacher, Graham has a Bachelor in Social Work and has worked to stop domestic violence since 1986.
 
In Aotearoa/NZ, Graham was part of setting up the first men’s stopping violence programmes, then worked as the founding Men’s Programme Coordinator on a national inter-agency pilot in Hamilton (HAIPP), based on the world-leading Duluth model.
 
Moving to Duluth Minnesota in 2001, Graham worked with Dr. Ellen Pence on a CDC-funded evaluation project. The Domestic Abuse Intervention Program’s practice is world leading in how it applies institutional ethnography to domestic violence intervention and system change. Graham then moved back to Shine in Auckland, developing both their men’s stopping violence programme and the initial workplace domestic violence project. In 2003 he returned to DAIP in Duluth, working for with the local Coordinated Community Response and the National Training Project.
 
Graham then worked for ten years for the Battered Women’s Justice Project in Minneapolis MN. a project of DAIP. BWJP provides national and international training and technical assistance for communities through the federal government. This helps local communities improve their inter-agency response to domestic violence.
 
As well as the mission of GRW, Graham has special interests in Coordinated Community Response, offender accountability and engagement, the specific needs of Lesbian Bisexual Gay Transgender and other sexual minorities within system responses, and male victims of domestic violence.
